History and Archaeology

Objectives of History :

To acquaint   students with the past and present History and the World. To Prepare students for a range of careers. Education, empowerment and to prepare the students to face competitive examinations.

History of the Department:

In the year 1969 with the establishment of our College, History department was started. Among humanities History is having its own significance. History is a root to all human knowledge. Now generation could build its future properly without having the knowledge of its past. What we are today is because of our past. Hence, History is a memory of our society. History is one of the popular subjects in our college. Prof. M.R.Anavatti, M.A., was a gold medallist. He was the pioneer of the department. He was profound scholar and great researcher in the subject. Under his dynamic leadership our department was brought up. He joined the department in the year of 1969 and served up to 1976. Prof. G.G.Bhat M.A., Diploma in Epigraphy, Joined the department in the year 1974.  He is the second person in the department, noted for his devotion, punctuality and generous nature. He has given fruitful and lengthy service to the department up to 2002. Prof. D.I.Pharnakar M.A., worked as Selection Grade Lecturer in the department. He joined as lecturer in 1986 and retierd in 2020. Under University Grant Commission FIP Scheme, he Completed M.Phil. Course in the year 2000-2001. He has also completed P.G. Diploma in Ambedkar Studies. M.S. Gururaj M.A. joined the department in 2002 as a part time lecturer. He is showing keen interest in teaching of degree. Bhagylaksmi Petemath M.A., Joined the department in 2004 as a Part time lecturer. Presently Gurupad Hegde have been working as Head of the Department.

Mission:

The department aims at facilitating its students in understanding and learning of the history of mankind as the guiding principle for the development of society. In the modern knowledge based society it is intended to make citizens enjoy learning history.

Vision:

History taught through formal and organised courses should not limit to participants alone. It should be a lifelong  learning process to explore the fundamentals of living on earth.
