Languages, history, economics and politics
Where the college began in 1969. Study History & Archaeology, Economics and Political Science with Kannada, English and Hindi, in the land of Banavasi and Jog Falls.

Accounting, banking, tax and enterprise
Started in June 1977 so that local students no longer had to travel far for a commerce degree. Today it adds Tally & SAP training and a certificate in Entrepreneurship & Startups.
Since 1991B.Sc
Physical and life sciences, maths and computing
Science was added in 1972 and the B.Sc degree followed in 1991, with the Zoology combination in 1993-94. Labs for Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology sit on the same green campus.

Language & common papers
Our story
A century ago Siddapur taluk was dense forest, cut off by heavy rain, malaria and poverty. Ganesh Hegde, born into the Dodmane family 25 km away, lost his mother early and studied only up to the fourth standard.
He went on to become a freedom fighter and, cycling from village to village as a trader, resolved that the education he never had should reach every child in the taluk. He founded the Samiti on co-operative principles, opened high schools in Siddapur, Itagi, Dodmane and Bilagi, and then built MGC College.

Former Chief Minister of Karnataka and younger brother of our founder, Shri Ramakrishna Hegde stood behind the Samiti from its earliest days. The college marked his birth centenary on 29 August 2026.

The B.Com programme begins, so students no longer travel far for Commerce.

The 57th Annual Day and the Shri Ramakrishna Hegde birth centenary.

Most Arts departments are as old as the college. Science joined in 1972 and Commerce in 1977.

Three undergraduate programmes: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc). Each runs for three years (six semesters) under the NEP.
M.G.C. Arts, Commerce & G.H.D. Science College is affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad, and the syllabus follows the university's scheme. The college has completed three cycles of NAAC accreditation.
The college was founded in 1969 by Shri Ganesh Hegde Dodmane and is run by Shikshana Prasaraka Samiti (R), Siddapur, which also runs Dhanvantari Ayurveda College and several schools in the taluk.
