About MGC

Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Arts, Commerce and Ganesh Hegde Dodmane Science College was started in 1969 by the Shikshana Prasaraka Samiti (R), Siddapur, to bring higher education to the young people of a rural Malnad taluk.

Our story

The college was founded in 1969 by the Shikshana Prasaraka Samiti (R), Siddapur. Its founder, Shri Ganesh Hegde Dodmane, worked tirelessly to build its infrastructure with the help of public-spirited philanthropists of the region and the support of his younger brother, Shri Ramakrishna Hegde, former Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Since its inception the college has served the ideals of its founder, sending thousands of graduates out into society. Many of them have reached the top of their careers and serve the nation in a wide range of fields.

Affiliation and accreditation

The college is affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad, and has completed three cycles of NAAC accreditation.

It offers undergraduate programmes in Arts, Commerce and Science. The syllabus follows Karnatak University, Dharwad, and each degree runs for three years (six semesters).

Management and campus

The Samiti's management, under Chairman Shri Vinayakrao G. Hegde and President Dr. Shashibhushan V. Hegde, continues to add facilities and support the staff in upholding the college's reputation.

The college stands on a 30-acre campus that also houses the Samiti's Ayurveda hospital, laboratories, hostel facilities, a canteen, an auditorium, a yoga hall and a playground. Classrooms are spacious and well ventilated, and teaching is supported by audio-visual aids and a well-stocked library.
