History

  1. Realizing the need for Commerce education our management decided to start BCom
    Programme and the Department of Commerce came into existence in June1977.
  2. Earlier, Commerce course was taught only to pre-university students and after P.U.C these
    students were either diverting to B.A. degree or going to distant places for pursuing
    Commerce education. Hence, students and parents expected the college to start BCom
    degree and the college lived up to their expectations.
  3. With the commercialization of agriculture and rapid advancement in Secondary sector
    particularly Corporate sector-Cost accounting, Banking, Management, Financial
    Accounting, Secretarial Practice, Taxation, Auditing, Marketing, Computer Application,
    Personnel Management etc., became vital subjects and the manpower generated
    imbibing these skills and knowledge, began to get more scope and opportunities to B.Com
    degree.

A Note on our teachers

  1. Since its inception the department has seen many wonderful teachers like Sri S.R. Nagaraj,
    Sri Seetaram Bhatta, Sri G.V. Shetty, Sri Lohit Naik & Sri Vinayaka M.S.
  2. In the year 2019 two new Assistant Professors were appointed namely V. KiranKumar and
    Chetana M. Hegde.
  3. Department saw many temporary faculty members in the course of time like Lohit Naik,
    Mamata G.T, Chaitra Naik
    and Hajeera Sheikh who contributed towards the progress of
    the department.
  4. In the year 2025, Madhura Naik, an alumna of our college has been appointed as a guest
    lecturer (part time).

The Department of Commerce is committed to providing quality education that builds a strong
foundation in commerce, finance, and management. The department focuses on academic
excellence, skill development, career readiness, and holistic student growth. Through classroom
teaching, career guidance programs, workshops, industry interaction, and co-curricular activities,
the department prepares students for higher education, professional courses, entrepreneurship,
and employment. The department actively contributes to institutional quality initiatives and
student development programs, ensuring all-round progress of learners.

Mission of the Department

  1. To impart quality commerce education through effective teaching-learning practices.
  2. To enhance employability and entrepreneurial skills through career-oriented and skill
    based programs.
  3. To promote ethical values, social responsibility, and lifelong learning among students.
  4. To contribute to institutional quality enhancement through active involvement in IQAC
    initiatives.

After completing the program, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate sound knowledge of commerce, accounting, finance, and business
    management.
  2. Apply theoretical concepts to practical business and financial situations.
  3. Use accounting and analytical tools for financial reporting and decision-making.
  4. Communicate effectively in professional and academic environments.

  7. Develop entrepreneurial mindset and problem-solving abilities.

Goals of the Department of Commerce

  1. To build a strong academic foundation in commerce and management that prepares
    students for higher education, professional courses, and industry requirements.
  2. To nurture employability, entrepreneurship, and professional competence among
    students through skill-oriented and career-focused initiatives.
  3. To bridge the gap between theory and practice by integrating classroom learning with
    real-world applications.
  4. To promote holistic development by encouraging participation in academics, sports,
    leadership, and co-curricular activities.
  5. To instill ethical values, social responsibility, and lifelong learning attitudes in students.

Objectives of the Department

  1. To impart quality commerce education aligned with university curriculum and current
    industry trends.
  2. To organize career guidance and placement-oriented programs in collaboration with
    industry experts, professional bodies, and training institutions.
  3. To encourage students to pursue professional courses such as CA, CS, CMA, Tally, SAP, and
    other certification programs.
  4. To conduct workshops, seminars, webinars etc., to enhance analytical, communication,
    and presentation skills.
  5. To provide exposure to digital tools, accounting software, financial analysis, and project
    based learning.
  6. To support research orientation and academic projects through training on data analysis,
    financial reporting, and interpretation.
  7. To actively contribute to IQAC initiatives by maintaining systematic documentation,
    outcome-based planning, and continuous quality improvement.
  8. To promote community engagement and social awareness through outreach and
    extension activities.
