History of the department:
Realizing the need for Commerce education our management decided to start B.Com. Programme and the Department of Commerce came into existence in June 1977.
Earlier, Commerce course was taught only to pre-university students and after P.U.C. these students were either diverting to B.A. degree or going to distant places for pursuing Commerce education. Hence, students and parents expected the college to start B.Com. degree and the college lived up to their expectations.
With the commercialization of agriculture and rapid advance of Secondary sector particularly corporate sector-Cost accounting, Banking, Management, Financial Accounting, Secretarial Practice, Taxation, Auditing, Marketing and Salesmanship, Computer Application, Personal Management etc., became vital subjects and the manpower generated imbibing these skills and knowledge, began to get more scope and opportunities. B.Com. degree course meets this manpower need of the economy and we have proudly started supplying our products.
Sri. S. R. Nagaraja M.Com. had the privilege of heading the department right from its inception. He hails from business family and had acquired adequate practical knowledge in the subjects. With high hopes and dedication, he has nurtured the department. He is a good Sportsman also.
Sri. Seetaram Bhatta. T. M.Com. was the second man in the department. A man with a flair for intellectual life and respect for human values. He has participated in All India Radio talk. He is interested in Classical music.Sri. Gangadhar V. Shetty, M.Com. was the third addition to the department. Very disciplined, strict, and devoted man to his profession. He hails from respected family of contractors. He worked as N.S.S. Officer of our college unit and successfully conducted three special camps. Sri. M. S. Vinayaka M.Com., yet another addition to the department. Very sincere, devoted and hardworking man of the department. He too worked as N.S.S Officer of our college N.S.S. unit.Sri Lohit Naik, Miss Anasuya & Sri Manjunath M have worked as guest faculties in 2018-19.In the year 2019-20 two new Assistant Professors were appointed namely V. KiranKumar and Chetana M. Hegde & further In the year 2021-22, Miss Mamata G. Tanmadgi (Alumni of our college) has been appointed as a guest lecturer.

Teaching methodology :
- We use traditional chalk & talk method in classroom.
- Students are being interacted by way of question answering & group discussions in classroom itself.
- Previous year question papers are discussed in order to increase the confidence in students.
- Regular assignments are given to students.
