Physics

History of the Department:

Physics the branch of natural science, aims to unfold the secrets of nature and to the natural phenomena. Achievements of Physics have sooner or later influenced life. The practical fruits of physics now a days are increasingly more important to man’s material prosperity. It is applied to various fields such as medicine, architecture, technology etc. It has deeply penetrated almost every aspect of life and it has become an inseparable part of human culture.

Physics helps in removing superstitious approach of the mankind by explaining the facts behind them. A systematic and careful observation of the events that occurs in our life reveals the significance of Physics. Hence the study of Physics makes one a perfect thinker, visualizer. It invokes the scientific temper among them. As the world is now swimming in a pool of technology, this branch forms the fundamental root of it.

Physics department started functioning in our college from the year 1972. Prof. S. S. Naik was looking after this department. Prof. G. V. Hegde was appointed as full-time lecturer in Physics in the year 1973. Since then, it is functioning under his leadership. B.Sc. Course was introduced in the year 1991.

We are getting more than 70% result in Physics every year. Apart from the regular course of study, Guidance regarding C.E.T. is being given. A separate unit of Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat was opened in our college in the year 1987-88. Many staff members and students were taken as members. Many dignitaries are also involved in its activities. Lot of work has been done towards creating ‘scientific attitude’ in students as well as in public. One of our students, Shri. Venkatesh Naik, had been sent for special training in “Pavada Bayalu”Programme. Shri. Narendra Naik gave the training. Shri. Venkatesh Naik, after getting the training gave more than 500 programmes all over this district and gotnumber of awards also. We conducted a memorable Science exhibition in the year 1988. More than 2000 people had witnessed and appreciated the program. Bharata Jana Vijnana Jatha was taken to every corner ofthis taluk in 1992 under the leadership of Prof.G.V. Hegde, as taluk Convenor. Starting from the year 1989 we are conducting National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP). The successful candidates in this examination are eligible for national and international Olympiad in Physics. our Centre no. is N5618. There are only two such centers in our district.
