Objectives of the Department:
The modern civilization is a scientific civilization. Science has become an integrated part of our life and living. We cannot imagine a world without science. Great advancements in science and technology and the use of scientific achievements have promoted the well-being of mankind. The application of science in the field of industry, agriculture and medicine, transport and communication etc., has made it more significant than ever before.
Zoology being a branch of life science, aims at the development of scientific knowledge among learners. It is helpful in removing the superstitious beliefs prevalent in the society, and cultivates the habits of proper reasoning, observation and development of experimental or practical skills. It promotes critical thinking and helps to develop scientific attitude.
The objectives of Zoology curriculum are as follows:
- To create interest in life science and help in acquisition of knowledge of the subject.
- To improve and strengthen the knowledge of Zoology.
- To develop scientific attitude among the students.
- To train the students for acquisition of technical knowledge of life science, intellectual
- abilities and skills.
- To help the students to acquire advanced knowledge of the subject and motivate them to
- involve in research.
- To train the students in scientific method, develop scientific thinking and reasoning.
- To increase the vocational efficiency of the students.
History of the Department:
Our college was started in the year 1969.Siddapur is an educationally backward taluk and ours is the only degree college in it. As there was much pressure from the public to start science degree courses in our college, our management decided to start with P.U. Science Course in 1972. Then onwards, the students passing out of P.U. Science demanded degree courses in science. Hence, B.Sc. degree was started in 1991-92.
Zoology combination was started in our college in 1993-94. This has provided an opportunity to science students to continue B.Sc. course with Zoology as one of the optional subjects. Otherwise, they would have gone to distant places to study science course. But this section till today remains un-aided and the entire financial support is provided by the management.
Despite various limitations and problems, we have succeeded in building a good department of zoology over the years and produced many graduates with distinction. Also, high percentages of results have been obtained every year.
